Once you get your first house, things may seem a bit barren. Inside all the furniture you start with is a small bed, a nightstand with a journal on it, a bookshelf, a cabinet, a television, a telephone sitting next to your journal, a calender on the wall, and two counters with a stove, as well as a frying pan and a small refrigerator. Every night before you go to bed, you may choose to write something in your journal, perhaps about what you did that day, who you met, any interesting things that happened, things like that. Anything you write will be placed in the 'Journal' part of your character's storage. The bed, obviously, is where you'll go to sleep each night. On the bookshelf you'll find books explaining things similar to this tutorial. Letters you receive will also be kept in your bookshelf. In the cabinet you can store up to 8 items, at first, but you can later buy a cabinet that can store 15, 25, or even 40 items.
Your refrigerator stores food so that it'll stay fresh. However, keep food in it too long and it will spoil. At first your refrigerator can store 10 items and keeps them fresh for one week, however, you can buy a new refrigerator which can hold 20 items and keep them fresh for 3 weeks, one which holds 30 items and keeps them fresh for one month, or even on that holds 50 items and keeps them fresh for two months. You can place cooking utensils on your counters, but you can't have more than one device on each counter. Your frying pan occupies the first of your two counters, so you have room to buy one more. However, if you want to be a master chef and hold more utensils, you need to buy larger counters.
The television in your house has 4 channels- the Weather Channel (where you can check to see the weather for today and tomorrow), the Events Channel (where you can get caught up on the next festival or event going on in town), the Shopping Channel (where you can see exclusive items going on sale. If you see one you want to buy, pick up the phone and call them to see if you can purchase it), and the Life Channel (where you'll find various shows on each day). Your calender is the same as the one on this forum- it shows Villager's birthdays as well as upcoming events.
Outside your house you'll find a mailbox where you'll receive letters, as well as a small shipping box. Any time you have any item you want to sell, just drop it in the box and you'll receive the gold for it the next day, after it's been shipped. However, each time you drop an item in the box, a message will pop up (be posted by myself or another admin) telling you how much you just made. Behind your house you'll find your lumber bin, which holds lumber for making additions to your house or building things such as barns or chicken coops. You also start out with a small animal house outside your home for a dog, cat, or other house pet to live. A small feeding bowl is found right next to the animal's house.
