Please note that this guide only applies if attempting to woo an NPC Bachelor or Bachelorette. If you would like to become close to, and possibly marry a character controlled by another board user, you may go about it however you feel necessary.
If you've got your eye on a certain boy or girl around town and would like to get to know them better, then eventually marry them, it's best to read this guide so you know the best ways to go about doing it. First of all, there are a few rules to wooing a bachelor or bachelorette:
- Your character must be at least 18 years of age
- Your character may be no older than 39 years of age
- For now, you may only woo a character of the opposite gender.
However, if anyone creates a character that isn't heterosexual and would like to woo/marry a character of the same gender, simply PM me (to secure your privacy) and I'd be more than glad to create an NPC character that isn't heterosexual. - While I do encourage you to attempt to woo another character, I do not want anything that gets too out-of-hand. Please, please, PLEASE keep things PG-13. A good rule of thumb is if you wouldn't see it in a Harvest Moon game, you shouldn't see it here.
To get an NPC to like you it's best to start off just by talking to them at least once a day. Then, check to see what they like in their character profile, then I would suggest giving them one of these things as a gift. While there is NO negative effect from giving them something that is not on either their likes or dislikes list, they'll get to like you better if you put the effort into getting them something they like.
So you've been chatting with them and getting to know them, as well as giving them gifts every day, but how do you know if they like you back? Well, as soon as we have at least three new villagers in Juniper Village, I will start adding to the bottom of each character profile how much they like each user-controlled character in town. The way you'll know is by how many hearts they have next to your name. The maximum amount they can have for you is 10 hearts. The symbol for half a heart is a diamond. Villagers can also start to dislike you. Disliking is represented by how many black dots they have next to your name. The symbol for half a black dot is an empty dot. The most they can dislike you is 5 black dots.
Once you've gotten an eligible Bachelor or Bachelorette to around 3 hearts, they might start paying special attention to you, and perhaps even show up at your house if they care for you enough. Keep befriending them to 5 hearts and when a special event comes around town they might invite you to go with them. Once you hit 6 hearts they might ask to go on a date with you, if they're the dating type. A good date will assure that their affection for you raises by one heart. However, a bad one will make it drop by one heart.
Once the Bachelor or Bachelorette you're trying to woo reaches 8 hearts with you, you're ready to tie the knot. However, there are a few prerequisites you need to meet before the Mayor of Juniper Village thinks you're ready to get married.
- You must have a house that's size is at least Rank 2 (you can upgrade it at the Carpenter's Shop for 15,000G and 60 Lumber)
- You must have a Double Bed (can be bought at the Carpenter's Shop for 5,000G or occasionally you'll find a cheaper one at the Home Shopping Channel)
- You must have a relationship of at least 3 hearts with at least 5 other villagers around town
- You must have at least 1,000G with you at the time you propose
If they say yes your wedding ceremony will be held exactly one week later (in our real-world time, but please message me if you need to rearrange the time) at your choice of either The Harvest Goddess Shrine, in front of the Harvest Sprite Falls, or atop Dawn Hill. Your new spouse will move in with you the next day.
Please note that once you marry an NPC, they keep their same schedule as defined in their character profile, except for when you wake up, when they can be found in the house, and when you come home about to go to bed, when they can be found in the house, as well. However, some people can still be found around town doing other things, as opposed to at home in bed when you come home, depending on the character.
And there you have it- how to woo your husband or wife of choice!
