Unless you wish to continue buying and buying animals to get more of their product, or if they start producing lower-quality products, you need to have your animals breed. Cows, horses, sheep, goats, and pigs are all bred in the same way; chickens are bred differently.
To impregnate a cow, horse, sheep, goat, or pig, there are two ways to do it. The way to insure that you end up with offspring is to get both a mature female and a mature male of that animal. Bring all your other animals outside or into your field to graze, and leave the two animals you wish to breed inside. You can then go to the Whistling Grass Ranch and get Liza, Wilson, or Jethro to come back to your ranch. You must have at least a 1 heart relationship with one of them. The person you brought to your ranch will then head inside your barn to check if your animals are compatible, and then one hour later you can come inside the barn to find the female animal pregnant.
In two weeks (in real-world time) your animal will then give birth and someone from Whistling Grass Ranch will come to assist with the labor. You should now have a baby of whatever animal it was you bred. For the next three days the mother and child will stay in a secluded area in the barn. After that the mother and child will stay in the barn or out in the field like normal. If it was a cow or goat that have birth then for the next week the only milk you can receive from them will be Mother's Milk, which you should give to the baby to help them grow faster. All other animals can just eat fodder. The child will grow into an adult animal in two weeks of real-world time.
The second way is to purchase a Miracle Potion from the Whistling Grass Ranch and give it to a mature, female animal. Then in three days of real-world time the local doctor will come to your ranch to see if she's become pregnant or not. There is a 50% chance she will become pregnant, and a 50% chance she won't. If she is, you can follow the previous steps from there.
In order to get chicks from your chickens, you must have at least one rooster in your chicken coop. If you have a rooster, there is a 25% chance that the eggs you receive from your chicken will be fertile. The chances increase if you have more than one rooster. You can then place the fertile egg in an incubator and in five days it will hatch into a chick. The chick will mature into an adult hen or rooster in one week.
