Your character may also choose to stay in the local Inn. If they haven't gotten settled in town yet, or aren't planning for anything long-term, this may be the choice for them. Of course, if you stay in the Inn, you cannot build anything outside of it, such as a barn or a chicken coop, but there is a lumber shed in the back for wood, and the room you stay in comes stocked with all the furnishings you would find in a house.
It makes up for not having your own land by being surrounded by people quite often, as well as being served a meal in the morning and in the evening. The Inn keeper and his daughter are very friendly and only charge 50G a month for the room. There is a dining area on the base floor you can eat at twice a day, as well as a small kitchen in every room.
